One of the first groundbreaking indie bands on Taiwan, PEPPERMINT has released two full albums and played numerous shows around the island alongside their peers BAD DAUGHTER and NIPPLES since they formed several years years ago. Shine's wavering vocal approach over music that can be soft indie or swingin' rock is reminiscent of the alt-rock group MAZZY STAR and Japanese experimental pop singer SHENA RINGO. Recently, the band has made a short trip to Japan. They have also modified their name to THE PEPPERMINTS.

TRACK LIST:
PACIFICTION REVIEW:PEPPERMINT's second release shows an improvement in sound quality and song craft and an overall maturity as a band. "開往天國的慢船" is a crisp acoustic indie track with a Latin beat. Still following their knack for being able to jump from folky sounds to edgy rock, "神的小羊" the driving beat, steady distorted rhythms and wild bursts from Shine show there is still some mania left over from the first album. "有什麼是真的" hauntingly shows off Shine's unique, wavering vocal technique over rumbling tremolo. Mellow and pained, manic yet controlled; "1979" presents PEPPERMINT at their best. Taxi Room is a well put-together album that runs the emotional and musical gamut: from moody, condescending alt-rock to bouncy acoustic and sad indie with clean tones and surprising amounts of distortion. |
