VARO was formed in 2004 by Wan Ting, a founding member of the seminal Taiwanese girl punk band Ladybug, who teamed up with two members from CHASING SPARROW and Show Yao, a regular at Taipei's indie rock venue the Underworld. VARO's first CD Hardcore Beach was released in 2004 which was followed by an Australian tour.
2005 saw some line-up changes with all members being replaced except Show Yao and for their second album My Body Is The Tempo, released in early 2007.
Varo has received international attention with a review of Hardcore Beach in the British music magazine The Wire as well as being mentioned in an article about the Taipei-based Weather in My Brain indie-electronica festival in the same magazine.

My Body Is The Tempo is a whole new album of independent film soundtrack interpretations which contains a whole month's worth of DVD rentals that might be found on the average college kid's list of movies to watch! The new album goes in a more indie pop direction with less of the introspective tracks found on Hardcore Beach. The exotic lounge feel of "The Girl In The Cafe" shows that Varo is not afraid of going new places, yet the up beat and enigmatic "Bubble" assures us that Wan Ting's classic reverbed guitar style is still present. Show Yao's vocals are featured on several tracks including "Amores Perros" and "Winter Passing" which give the album an indie pop feel and less of an electro-project sound. My Body Is The Tempo is another borderless step into indie-electronic experimentation that should not be missed by fans of their first album. |
